Tourism and No Poverty
A country without
poverty! It is not only my dream but also every people want a safe and good
environment for living. Each and every people are trying to help each other to
solve this problem but it is difficult to when the whole community is living in
poverty. The question is can we do something which will help the whole community
to develop themselves?
Tourism can play a vital role in Bangladesh to improve the whole
community no matter are they living in a village
or city. Tourism contributes 5% of the world’s GDP whereas the performance in Bangladesh is very low. Now it is the
high time to rethink about our options. In the
rest of the article, I will talk
about poverty and why Tourism is very important in poverty alleviation in order
to achieve 1st Sustainable Development Goal.
The word poverty means
extremely poor. What do you think? If you think poverty
is not having enough money, maybe you are right but the word poverty is way
bigger than that. Let me tell you some more information about poverty. Poverty
means you do not have food, no shelter, no clothes, nothing to do for your
livelihood and everything is uncertain. It can be worse if you die without any
proper treatment. So, I guess now you clear about the word poverty.
One of my friends in the village he is a rickshaw
driver as his profession. He barely earns his daily food for him and family. He
has no savings for the future. Many
times, I saw him suffering from various diseases but he never goes for a good
doctor. Sometimes he went to the nearest pharmacy and buy medicine without a prescription.
Near his house, there is a river with a very good landscape. If we make any tourism
development in that place, he may change his profession and he will get some
opportunity to do business and remove poverty.
Tourism always increases
the business activities which is very important for poverty alleviation. It has
the power to create a business where
normally we can not think about business. For the third world countries, Tourism will be the best key to development as we have seen that emerging
economic countries are getting more international tourist arrival.
